Les éco-délégués au primaire en action
Poetry by Heart
Poetry By Heart was founded in 2012 by poet Andrew Motion (UK Poet Laureate 1999-2009) and educator Julie Blake.
The first Poetry by Heart contest for middle school pupils in France took place in the chapel at Ecole Massillon in 2018, and since then the competition has gone from strength to strength.
This year, children from twenty different schools across France took part in the virtual contest organised by the English Language Schools Association (ELSA).
Our in-class semi-finals were a showcase for a range of poems from across the ages, written by poets from across the English-speaking world. Massillon pupils recited by heart and with their hearts; it was a pleasure for their teachers to judge them.
Congratulations go to our 6 semi-finalists:
6ème: Alexandre Coq and Sofia Define
5ème: Jack Delabre and Raphaël Blumstein-Lacronique
4ème: Ella Blumstein-Lacronique and Ruby Zanoun-Brown
Ella was placed third in the 4ème age group in the French finals, winning her prize for a truly beautiful recitation of ‘Mushrooms’ by Sylvia Plath.
